Course Objectives
Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • Will able to define the psychophysiological basis of health and illness.
  • Will able to explain health professionals-patients communation and problems in this area.
  • Will able to define, evidence-based psychological interventions that emphasize the role of stress on health.
  • Will able to explain affects of pain on psychological well being, different pain theories and pain management methods.
  • Will know current ethical standards and legal responsibilities of health psychologists, including those pertaining to psychological practice and research.
  • Will able to explain the effects of interaction with medical professionals in practice and its effects on adherence.
  • Will able to explain why we engage in problematic health behaviours such as smoking cigarettes, drinking alcohol to excess, eating poorly, what we can do to change those behaviours, and what the health costs are if we do not change our poor health behaviors.
  • Will able to explain ways for adjustment to chronic illness.
  • Will able to define stigma, different stigma types and what kind of illnesses are more prone to stigmatization.
  • Will able to explain coping with terminal illness and related teories with this issue.
  • Will be able to explain concept of life quality in accordance with health and will be able to interpret this concept in accordance with different kinds of illnesses.
